My wonderful mom was chosen as the Nephi Woman of the Year! She received the award at the Miss Nephi pageant and it was a surprise. My dad and I had known for a couple of months. I wrote a little bio about her and it was also my job to get her to the pageant. This job was much harder than I anticipated! She was so difficult. Samantha had a softball game in Spanish Fork the same day as the pageant. I was staying in Nephi that whole week and I told her we should just miss Sam's game. She insisted we could go to the game and just leave early. Since she wasn't budging, I agreed. So, we went to the game. It started way late and we really needed to leave just a few minutes after it started. After the first inning I tried to leave, but she said she wanted to watch Sam bat one more time. After Sam batted I tried to leave again, but she said we needed to finish watching the inning! Finally at the end of the inning I got her to leave. But, we were leaving at the time I wanted to be at the pageant. I told her to drive fast!
Once we made it to Nephi I realized she was going to park in the back where I told all of our family to park. I told her to just park on the road and she got mad at me! So, she parked in the back and I was frantically texting Jordan to tell him she was coming in right where everyone was waiting. My dad actually saw us in the parking lot, but he hid behind a truck! Jordan didn't get my text until way late, but luckily Kellsi saw us through the window. The whole family got backstage as we were literally walking through the door. Finally we got a seat and the show started. A couple of numbers in I told my mom I needed to go the bathroom. Then, I met the rest of the family backstage. When they started reading her bio we were all on stage behind the curtain. My mom said she really wasn't paying very close attention. But, when they said she has been the booster club president for 12 years she knew it was her! They opened the curtain a little after that and we could all see her in the back with her hands on her head :) She was so funny and very surprised! They wanted her to say a little something and she said she was emabarrassed about her hair because it was windblown from the ball game. Then she just said thanks and then hugged everyone.
She is a wonderful woman and a huge asset to the city of Nephi. They couldn't have picked a better person!
